MAKING A HERB INFUSED OIL
Below are the instructions to make a herb infused oil. I recommend reading through the instructions fully before making it so you make sure you have everything that you need.
What you’ll need: herbs of choice, clean & dry wide mouth glass jar (size dependent on amount), oil (olive, avocado, almond, jojoba, etc), strainer, cheese cloth, & storage bottle.
- Pick out your herbs of choice. You can use a combination of herbs or use a single herb. Dry herbs work better for oil infusions since they contain less water.
- Fill a clean dry wide mouth glass jar with herbs, leaving about 2 inches from the top of the jar.
- Pour your oil of choice over the herbs to completely cover them by 1-2 inches.
- Place the lid on the glass container and place the jar in a warm sunny spot. This helps the oil extract the medicinal properties from the herbs.
- Let it sit for 2 weeks.
- After 2 weeks, it is time to strain the herb(s). Strain with a strainer lined with cheese cloth, into storing bottle of choice and store in a cool dark spot.
- Herbal infused oils do not last as long as tinctures and vinegars. They easily go rancid with heat and sun exposure within a few weeks. Storing in a cool dark spot or the refrigerator will help the oil last several months.
- Enjoy!
